Kakorotan island located in the District
Nanusa Talaud Islands, with an area of 3:15 km ², and has a villages namely;
Kakorotan. Outermost point coordinates Celebes Sea 04®37'36 "NL 127®09'53"
EL. The population of 784 people. The Kakorotan
Islands are also the northernmost region of Eastern Indonesia, bordering Davao
del Sur region of the Philippines. Culturally and linguistically, the
Kakorotan's people are closely related to the people of the Indonesian
archipelago, the Philippines, Dutchman and Portuguese.
In 1628, an earthquake that
resulted in a very large storm waves, which still a question mark the exact cause of the tragedy. Kakorotan island that was once only
one, divided into three parts. The name was changed to "Hinuntingan Aolotan",
which means like a cut. Because of these incident, the Village Kakorotan to
date consists of three islands, namely the island Kakorotan, Intata Island, and
Malo Island. After the incident, the villagers are left only eight people and
they form four tribes, the tribe Wale Uala by Lalendi, Pondo tribe by Tataloma,
Melonca by Wanua Tribe, Tribal Parapa by Lalaian. The most of Kakorotan's
population is Christianity.
